Nigeria to Face Morocco After Comoros Hurdle as Congo Withdraw from 2028 Olympic Qualifiers
According to a report by Soccernet on Friday October 9, 2026, Nigeria’s Super Falcons will face Morocco in the third round of the African qualifiers for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games if they defeat Comoros over two legs.
The development follows the withdrawal of the Republic of the Congo from the qualifying competition, which has handed Morocco automatic qualification for the next round.
The Royal Moroccan Football Federation confirmed that FIFA had informed it of the Atlas Lionesses’ progression after the Congolese Football Federation withdrew its women’s team from the campaign.
Nigeria will first have to overcome Comoros to secure a meeting with Morocco in the next stage of the qualifiers.
Both matches between the Super Falcons and Comoros will take place at Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, Ogun State. The first leg is scheduled for October 9, while the return fixture will be played four days later.
Comoros will host both encounters in Nigeria because the country lacks a suitable stadium for the qualifying matches.
The Super Falcons must win the tie on aggregate to advance to the third round, where they will face Morocco between February 23 and March 6, 2027.
Nigeria received a bye into the second round of the competition, while Comoros booked their place after defeating Sudan 30-0 on aggregate in the preliminary round.
The Super Falcons will enter the encounter as favourites to overcome their opponents and set up a challenging contest against the North African side.
Nigeria’s last meeting with Morocco came in the final of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. The hosts took a two-goal lead, but Nigeria produced a remarkable comeback with three second-half goals to claim their historic 10th continental title.
The Super Falcons are aiming to return to the Olympic women’s football tournament after participating at Paris 2024.
However, the African champions must navigate four knockout rounds to secure one of the continent’s two available places at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.
