His release will depend on the advice of his medical team, according to reports.
Zuma reportedly became unwell while carrying out political activities in the area.
His medical team is said to have advised that he be taken to the nearest hospital for urgent medical attention.
He was reportedly stabilised, with the possibility of being transferred to another medical facility once doctors considered it appropriate.
However, details about his condition and whether a transfer will take place have not been confirmed.
Family members and some leaders of his uMkhonto weSizwe party (MK party) have reportedly visited him in hospital.
The party has left communication about his health to the family.
Security personnel from the Presidential Protection Services were also seen keeping watch around the hospital.
Meanwhile, Deputy President Paul Mashatile has wished Zuma a speedy recovery.

Mashatile made the remarks during a door-to-door election campaign in Greater Midrand and Ivory Park on Friday, 9 October, after returning to work following sick leave.
Speaking on behalf of the Presidency, Mashatile said he wished the former president well and that they would continue checking on his condition.
“I would like to wish former president Zuma a speedy recovery, as he is in hospital. We do wish him a speedy recovery wherever he is, and we will keep checking how he is doing so that we can know exactly what is happening to him,” Mashatile said.
Zuma’s health has attracted public attention during previous hospital stays, including occasions when he sought medical treatment abroad.
