Motorists React as NNPC Cuts Petrol Price to ₦1,355 Per Litre

According to a report by The Nation on Friday, October 9, 2026, motorists in Abeokuta, Ogun State, have welcomed the reduction in petrol prices at Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) filling stations, expressing hope that the development will bring down transportation fares and the cost of essential goods.

The price reduction follows the Federal Government’s announcement of a 30-day fuel discount at NNPC retail outlets nationwide to ease the pressure of rising transportation costs on Nigerians.

According to The Nation, slight queues were observed at some NNPC stations in Abeokuta as motorists visited the outlets to buy petrol at the reduced rates.

A commercial tricycle operator in Ita Eko, Afeez Solaja, described the development as good news for transport operators and other residents struggling with the high cost of living.

He said the reduction could help ease transportation expenses and eventually lower the prices of food and other household essentials.

“Yes, it’s good news for us. We can see that the fuel price at NNPC stations is reducing gradually, but we believe that the government can reduce it further to the barest minimum,” Solaja stated.

Another tricycle operator, Abiodun Ojerinde, also welcomed the move, noting that commuters had continued to face difficulties paying high transport fares.

Ojerinde urged the Federal Government to find a lasting solution to rising fuel prices and their impact on residents.

Meanwhile, a manager at the NNPC Mega Station opposite Obasanjo Hilltop, who requested anonymity, disclosed that petrol had dropped from ₦1,380 to ₦1,355 per litre.

He added that customers who pay through the station’s mobile application receive an additional ₦66 discount.

The manager expressed optimism that prices could fall further, adding that station officials were informing motorists about the government’s directive.
