In The Next Six Months, I Will Be 80; I’m Older Than All The Governors And The President- Edochie
According to a report by Daily Post on Friday, October 9, 2026, the legendary actor made the remarks during a recent interview with TV3, where he discussed his position in society and his ability to draw the attention of government officials to important issues.
Edochie explained that his status as an elder gives him the confidence to approach those in positions of authority and speak about matters requiring their attention. He noted that he considers many of the country’s political leaders younger than himself, allowing him to relate to them as a father would to his children.
During the interview, the veteran actor recalled an incident in which he appealed to the government to provide financial assistance to a colleague who was experiencing health challenges. He said he used an interview conducted at his residence in Enugu to bring attention to the situation and request support for the ailing actor.
According to Edochie, his appeal produced a positive outcome, as the government reportedly provided financial assistance to his colleague shortly afterwards.
He recounted the experience while reflecting on his relationship with political leaders and the influence he believes comes with his years of experience.
“I was interviewed at my house in Enugu. At that time, one of my colleagues was unwell, so I seized the chance to appeal to the government for help.”
He further explained that the assistance arrived within a week of his appeal, highlighting how speaking publicly about the situation helped draw attention to his colleague’s needs.
“The following week, the government sent half a million naira to him. In the next six months, I will be turning 80. I am older than all the governors and the president, so when I talk to them, it is like a father talking to a son,” he stated.
The actor’s comments underscore his belief that age and experience can provide a platform for engaging political leaders and advocating for people in need.
As one of Nollywood’s most recognisable veteran performers, Edochie has maintained a prominent presence in Nigeria’s entertainment industry for decades. His remarks also highlight the role influential public figures can play in drawing attention to humanitarian concerns and seeking assistance for colleagues facing difficult circumstances.
