“If Atiku Visits America, It Will Bring Tinubu’s Second-Term Bid to a Complete Halt” — Ayodele
According to a video shared by Primate Elijah Ayodele on his official Facebook page on October 9, 2026, the cleric has made a prediction about President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second-term ambition, claiming that a visit to the United States by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar could change the political situation ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election.
Speaking in the video, Ayodele said Atiku’s visit to America could have serious implications for Tinubu’s re-election plans.
“If Atiku visits America before the 2027 election, it will bring Tinubu’s second-term bid to a complete halt,” the cleric reportedly said.
The statement comes amid growing attention to the relationship between Nigerian opposition figures and the United States as preparations for the 2027 general election continue.
Atiku, a former vice president who served from 1999 to 2007, is the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC). The Independent National Electoral Commission’s published list of candidates for the 2027 presidential election includes Atiku and Tinubu as contenders representing their respective parties.
In a report published by Independent Newspaper Nigeria on September 27, 2026, the cleric cautioned Tinubu against offering Nigeria’s mineral resources in exchange for American support. He claimed that the US government would not support the president’s second-term ambition, regardless of what Nigeria offered. These remarks represented Ayodele’s assessment of the political situation rather than an established position of the US government.
Atiku has also been linked to efforts to bring attention to records concerning Tinubu’s past legal proceedings in the United States. In July 2026, BusinessDay reported that a US lobbying firm engaged by Atiku had begun sharing records relating to Tinubu’s 1993 civil forfeiture case with members of the Trump administration and the US Congress.
