Chelsea vs Bournemouth: Predicted Lineup as Palmer, Caicedo and James Return

According to a report by the Evening Standard on Friday, October 9, 2026, Xabi Alonso, Chelsea’s manager, is likely to start a number of key players in Saturday’s Premier League match against Bournemouth.

At Stamford Bridge, the Blues will resume league play following a 22-day break. Prior to the international break, they last played in a 3-0 loss to Brentford away. Chelsea will be hosting Marco Rose’s squad, and Alonso will be looking to maximize the performance of the returning players.

Once they’ve gotten over their injuries, Moises Caicedo, Reece James, Cole Palmer, Joao Pedro, and Marco Palestra are all good to go. It is still unclear how many of the five players Alonso named at the press conference will start against Bournemouth, but he did confirm their readiness for the match.

While nursing a knee injury, Joao Pedro sat out Chelsea’s loss to Brentford and the Brazilian national team’s matches. Along with his efforts to get back to full fitness, the forward visited a specialist in London.

Prior to the break, Palmer’s fitness was a worry, and Caicedo and James were also coping with injuries. Since they are both available, Alonso has more leeway to choose who to start on Saturday.

Even though Alonso has switched between a 4-2-3-1 and a 3-4-2-1 formation in recent games, the Blues are expected to use the latter. Against Bournemouth, his tactical versatility may have an impact on the starting lineup.

Wesley Fofana, Lacroix, and Levi Colwill will make up the back three, with Martinez likely starting in goal. Caicedo and Jorrel Hato could form the midfield anchors, with Palestra and James playing on the wings.

When it comes to attacking, Morgan Rogers and Palmer are said to work in support of Joao Pedro, who, if chosen, could lead the line. As Chelsea seek to bolster their offensive options following the break, Palmer’s return to the lineup is especially significant.

Unfortunately for Chelsea, Jamie Gittens will miss a good chunk of time due to an ankle injury he sustained while playing for the England U-21 national team. After the game against Kazakhstan, the winger hobbled out of the stadium.

It is unclear if youngster Estevao or Geovany Quendao will get significant playing time against Bournemouth because Alonso has used them sparingly in Chelsea’s first five Premier League matches.

The following is the expected starting lineup for Chelsea’s upcoming match against a Lacroix and Colwill side: Martinez; Fofana, Lacroix, and Colwill; Palestra, James, Caicedo, and Hato; Rogers, Palmer, and Joao Pedro.

On Saturday, October 10, at 3pm BST, Chelsea will play host to Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge. Due to the 3pm blackout, the match will not be broadcast live in the UK.
