Chelsea Handed Boost Ahead Of Bournemouth Clash As Palmer And Pedro Update Emerges
Metro reported on Friday, October 9, 2026, that Chelsea have been handed encouraging injury news ahead of their Premier League meeting with Bournemouth, as Joao Pedro and Cole Palmer are available for selection.
The Blues are preparing to return to domestic action on Saturday after the international break, with head coach Xabi Alonso revealing that several key members of his squad have resumed training and are ready to play.
Pedro has played an important role in Chelsea’s attack this season, scoring three goals in four appearances during the opening stages of the 2026–27 campaign. His performances have made him a significant figure in the club’s forward line.
Nevertheless, the Brazilian was forced to miss Chelsea’s last match before the international break after suffering a knee injury. The Blues went on to lose that encounter 3–0 against Brentford.
The injury also ruled Pedro out of Brazil’s international fixtures, despite his initial recall to Carlo Ancelotti’s squad. He received medical treatment and consulted a specialist, leaving his participation in the Bournemouth game uncertain.
Earlier reports from Brazil indicated that the forward might spend up to four weeks on the sidelines. However, his improvement during recent training sessions has raised hopes of an earlier return, with Alonso confirming that he is available for consideration.
Chelsea will be eager to have Pedro back in action as they seek to put their disappointing defeat to Brentford behind them and return to winning ways.
Palmer is also expected to be available for the Bournemouth encounter. The England international has played in nearly all of Chelsea’s Premier League fixtures so far this season but withdrew from the England squad in September.
Thomas Tuchel, England’s manager, had previously voiced concerns about Palmer’s repeated absences from international duty, pointing to the uncertainty surrounding the midfielder’s availability.
Palmer also struggled with a long-term groin problem last season, forcing Chelsea to manage his workload carefully while he recovered. His return to availability will be a welcome development for the club as they prepare for another demanding league match.
Meanwhile, Alonso revealed that Reece James, Moises Caicedo and Marco Palestra have also participated in training ahead of Saturday’s fixture. However, the players have completed different amounts of training as they work towards full readiness.
The Chelsea boss was pleased with the team’s preparations and confirmed that the group had trained well ahead of its return to competitive football.
With several players becoming available again, Chelsea will be hoping to improve their display against Bournemouth. Their recent 3–0 loss to Brentford highlighted areas that require improvement, and Alonso will be looking for a stronger performance when his side returns to Premier League action.
