I Was Stopped From Flying In Akure Airport; I Saw Air Force Truck With Machine Gun On Runway—Amaechi
Rotimi Amaechi, ADC vice-presidential candidate, has stated that his plane was prevented from taking off at Akure Airport while he was campaigning for late President Muhammadu Buhari during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan
In a press briefing covered by Viable TV, Amaechi said while he was seated on a plane at the airport, a woman entered the aircraft and informed him that the airport was technically closed
Amaechi said he went to the runway and saw an Air Force vehicle fitted with a machine gun. He said he and his team decided to embark on their journey by road. He said they drove at high speed to Lagos, spent the night there and drove to Port Harcourt the following day.
In Amaechi’s words: “The same Akure airport, one of the days I got there to fly and they refused me. A lady ran into the plane where I was seated and told me ‘Sir, the airport is technically closed’. I said why? She said ‘An airport is technically closed when non civil authority directs the closure of an airport, go to the runway and see’. I went to the runway and saw an Air Force vehicle with a machine gun”
