CHE vs BOU: Xabi Alonso Delivers Update On Joao Pedro and Cole Palmer

According to a report by Metro on Friday, October 9, 2026, Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has provided positive updates on Joao Pedro and Cole Palmer ahead of Saturday’s Premier League meeting with Bournemouth. The Blues boss confirmed that both players have returned to training and could feature in the upcoming fixture.

Pedro has been out of action since suffering a knee injury during Chelsea’s 1-1 draw against Hull City on September 12. The Brazilian striker scored Chelsea’s equaliser in that encounter but missed the team’s disappointing 3-0 loss to Brentford before the international break. He also withdrew from international duty to concentrate on his recovery and consult specialists about his injury.

Speaking ahead of Saturday’s game, Alonso disclosed that several players had returned to training and could be considered for selection. Their return is expected to provide Chelsea with a timely boost as they prepare to face Bournemouth.

“Yes, they have been able to train, some of them more than others. Marco Palestra as well. That was the plan. They have trained well and they are ready to go,” the Chelsea manager stated.

The update will come as a relief to Chelsea supporters following their disappointing performance against Brentford. The Blues struggled to defend effectively and lacked the attacking quality needed to trouble their opponents. Pedro’s possible return would give Alonso another option in attack, while Palmer’s availability could further improve the team’s creativity and attacking strength.

Meanwhile, Reece James and Moises Caicedo have also resumed training and are available for selection. Their return provides Alonso with additional options as he prepares his squad for the Bournemouth encounter.

Chelsea will be determined to respond positively after losing to Brentford before the international break. With several important players back in contention, Alonso will hope his side can deliver an improved performance, claim a valuable result and rebuild confidence.
