Caicedo, Palmer, Joao Pedro – Chelsea injury latest and return dates ahead of Bournemouth match

According to a report by Football London on Friday, 9 October 2026, Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has received a major boost ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash against Bournemouth, with Moises Caicedo, Cole Palmer and Joao Pedro among the players discussed in his latest injury update.

Several Chelsea players have made progress in their recovery during the international break as the club prepares to return to action at Stamford Bridge.

Caicedo is closing in on a return after struggling with a calf injury that initially developed during pre-season.

The midfielder aggravated the problem during his attempted comeback against Brighton in August but is now ready to feature again.

Alonso confirmed the Ecuadorian was available, saying: “Yes, he’s ready to go. We have used the time with Moi to get him back fit. He’s ready to go.”

Palmer is also being assessed after withdrawing from England duty because of a muscular problem.

The attacking midfielder spent part of the international break working with a specialist fitness coach in the Caribbean.

Alonso indicated that players in recovery had returned to training, although their workloads differed.

Joao Pedro missed Chelsea’s defeat to Brentford with a knee injury and subsequently withdrew from Brazil’s squad.

The forward worked with a specialist during the break as he attempted to accelerate his recovery.

Jamie Gittens, however, will miss the Bournemouth encounter after suffering an ankle injury while representing England Under-21s. Alonso confirmed the winger would be sidelined for several weeks.

Reece James remains another player to monitor after missing the Brentford match with a hamstring problem. The Chelsea captain has been training, but the club may take precautions given his previous injury difficulties.

Marco Palestra could also be approaching his Chelsea debut after recovering from a quad injury sustained before the season began. The £47 million signing has yet to make a competitive appearance for the club.

Meanwhile, Emmanuel Emegha has returned to training following a hamstring problem and could also be considered for the matchday squad.

Chelsea will hope the returning players can strengthen Alonso’s options as the club looks to end its winless run in the Premier League.

Caicedo’s availability would be particularly significant, while the fitness of Palmer and Joao Pedro could influence the team’s attacking plans against Bournemouth.
