Amaechi: You Cannot Sit Down, Call Me A Madman And A Thief, And Expect To Walk Away Free- Wike

According to a report by Daily Post on Friday, October 9, 2026, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has criticized former Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi, calling him a “lunatic” and asserting that people like him will never be permitted to become president of Nigeria.

Wike’s comments were in response to Amaechi’s statements regarding Nigerian support for President Bola Tinubu in the lead-up to the 2027 presidential election.

The former governor of Rivers State accused Amaechi of insulting voters by labeling those planning to vote for Tinubu as thieves and madmen.

He contended that those comments were inappropriate and could impact the former minister’s political endeavors in Rivers State.

Wike, a significant political figure in Rivers State, challenged Amaechi’s qualifications to govern the country, using forceful language to convey his dissatisfaction with the former minister’s statements.

“A lunatic cannot preside over the affairs of this country! He said those who want to vote for Tinubu are thieves. So, I’m a thief? That’s what he’s saying.

“But who could be a bigger thief than Amaechi? Just ask him who his psychiatrist is,” Wike remarked.

The FCT minister also cautioned that Amaechi might struggle to campaign in Rivers State if he keeps making comments that supposedly offend Nigerians who support the president.

Wike emphasized that politicians shouldn’t expect to make insulting remarks about their constituents and then continue their political activities without facing backlash from those who oppose them.

He insisted that Amaechi’s statements could provoke resistance to his political goals, especially in Rivers State, where Wike still holds significant political power.

“If he continues down this path, campaigning in Rivers State will be challenging for him. We will make it difficult for him.”

“You cannot sit down, call voters madmen and thieves, and expect to walk away free,” he stated.
