Siaya ACK Bishop Faces Backlash Over His Remarks on Sifuna and Linda Mwananchi — Here’s What He Said

Anglican Church of Kenya Bishop David Kodia has faced criticism online after speaking about divisions within ODM and the emergence of the Linda Mwananchi movement.

Kodia made the remarks on Wednesday, October 7, during the handover and dedication of Raila Odinga’s mausoleum in Bondo, Siaya County. He criticised political leaders who are splitting existing parties and forming new political outfits ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The bishop specifically referred to developments within ODM, arguing that the party was being affected by attempts to create separate political vehicles. He invoked the memory of the late Raila Odinga and suggested that such political fragmentation would not have happened if the former ODM leader were still alive.

Kodia also warned that Kenya could not afford further political divisions. He argued that continued fragmentation could undermine confidence in the country and urged leaders to approach the 2027 elections with greater sobriety.

His remarks came as Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna continues building his political platform after his departure from ODM. Sifuna was unveiled as leader and presidential candidate of The Equitable Party on October 4, with several leaders associated with Linda Mwananchi attending the launch.

The bishop’s comments triggered criticism from some social media users who accused him of defending ODM’s current leadership or attempting to please President William Ruto. Others argued that ODM remained intact and rejected the suggestion that Sifuna’s political movement had divided the party.

Those reactions, however, are opinions expressed online and do not establish that Kodia was acting on behalf of the government. The bishop has previously criticised the Ruto administration and called for stronger opposition oversight of government.

Kodia’s latest intervention therefore adds another voice to the growing debate over ODM’s future, Sifuna’s new political vehicle and the wider opposition strategy ahead of the 2027 election.
