Two suspects wanted in connection with murder and attempted murder cases were shot dead during a shoot-out with police at Tafelkop in KwaNdengezi, west of Durban, on Thursday.

The suspects were wanted in connection with cases in Mariannhill and KwaNdengezi.

Police spokesperson Col Robert Netshiunda said police in Mariannhill received intelligence about suspected stolen goats being kept at a residence along Intake Road in Tafelkop.

Police went to the address and recovered 30 goats.

Police later received information that suspects being sought for murder and attempted murder were at the same premises, prompting an operation.

β€œWhen police approached the suspects, a shoot-out ensued,” Netshiunda said.

Two suspects were fatally wounded during the shoot-out.

Netshiunda said a third suspect escaped from the scene while shooting at police officers.

A manhunt is under way for the third suspect.
