Gang violence rukked hand uit in Valhalla Park after one man was shot dead and four others were wounded on 8th Avenue.

Provincial police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg confirmed that the victims are between the ages of 23 and 34 and the motive for the shooting is believed to be gang-related.

Twigg reported: “Bishop Lavis police registered murder and attempted murder cases for investigation following a shooting incident…”

“According to reports the victims were inside the house when unknown suspects entered the premises and opened fire on the victims before fleeing the scene. The motive for the attack is believed to be gang-related.”

In the same police precinct, at around 9.55pm, cops responded to the murder of a 32-year-old man in Vlamboom Street, Bonteheuwel, who was shot in the face.

Twigg reported that the victim was walking in the road when he was approached by an unknown suspect who shot him and fled the scene.

He added: “On Wednesday night, 7 October 2026, at about 9.55pm, in Vlamboom. The motive for the attack is believed to be gang-related. Bishop Lavis detectives are investigating a murder case.

Police have also confirmed a separate shooting in Loganberry Street, Bonteheuwel, where a 29-year-old man was shot dead by unknown suspects in the early hours of Thursday, with the motive still unknown and no arrests made.

Local ward councillor Angus McKenzie told the Daily Voice that the all three victims were known gang members.

He added that the escalation is the result of a gang war.

Hy sny die stuk so: “This is being driven primarily by a big push by our teams in Bonteheuwel, raiding drug houses and confiscating drugs. One gang in particular are very upset about this and pursuing going into other gang territories to demand control of drug trade.

“Very encouraging is the increase in tip off information my office is receiving from community and being followed up by teams.

“This work is obviously placing immense pressure on the life blood of gangsters, drug dealing.

“I will tell you that I and the team are in no way backing down we will keep the pressure on and if gangsters take themselves out, that’s collateral damage, they inflict enough pain on our communities.”

Meanwhile, Philippi SAPS detectives are investigating a murder case following a shooting incident that happened at Surran Road, Hanover Park, where a 28-year-old was shot dead on Wednesday around 10pm.

Western Cape Minister of Police Oversight and Community Safety, Anroux Marais, says additional LEAP Reaction Unit resources have been deployed in Hanover Park following a recent increase in gang-related shootings.

Marais said: “We cannot allow gang groupings to dictate the lives of law-abiding residents in Hanover Park. We are responding by strengthening the enforcement presence on the ground.”

Minister Marais said removing illegal firearms is key to tackling gang violence, urging communities to share information with law enforcement while warning residents not to confront criminals themselves:

“Gangs cannot continue shooting at one another if we take the firearms out of their hands…”
