Helicopter Carrying Government Official Crashes, Several Feared Dead

Residents of Igbokoda in Ondo State are on edge following a helicopter crash in the area on Monday, October 5, with fears that those on board may be dead.

The crash took place in the Ilaje Local Government Area, where the helicopter is said to have fallen into a swampy region near a Naval Base. This incident triggered anxiety as locals and officials rushed to the scene to determine the situation.

Ilaje Local Government Chairman Maurice Oripelaye confirmed the crash but indicated that the exact number of occupants was still unknown.

He noted that military equipment was discovered at the site, and the helicopter was reduced to ashes, raising speculation that it may have been a military aircraft, though this has not yet been verified.

The Ondo State Police Command has also acknowledged that an aircraft has crashed in Igbokoda. Police spokesperson DSP Jimoh Abayomi mentioned that further details are still coming in and urged residents in Igbokoda and surrounding areas to stay calm and refrain from spreading unverified information.

As of Monday afternoon, no official statements had been made regarding the number of possible casualties or the identities of those aboard.

The cause of the crash is also currently unknown. Security and emergency crews are actively working at the crash site to gather more information.

Authorities are continuing to evaluate the wreckage and gather details about the event.

At this point, the primary concern is for the occupants, as families and residents anxiously await updates from officials.

Additional information is anticipated as the police, military, and other relevant agencies complete their investigations at the site.
