68-Year-Old Woman Caught Doing Reckless Donuts on Courthouse Lawn: “The Margaritas Were Extra Strong”

But in North Vernon, Indiana, deputies were left completely dumbfounded when a driver decided the front grass of the justice center was the ultimate spot to rip reckless donuts.

The incident was captured in broad daylight on surveillance cameras, prompting the Jennings County Sheriff’s Office to issue a warning that nobody ever expected to hear on local news.

In footage broadcast by WLWT, a silver four-door sedan can be seen carving deep, destructive tire ruts into the manicured courthouse lawn, spinning out across the turf with zero regard for bystanders or public property.

“We have heard this before. Don’t drink and drive, but also, this has to be said, don’t do donuts outside a courthouse while drunk,” the WLWT news anchor announced as the wild footage played.

When deputies scrambled outside to put an immediate halt to the spinning sedan, they weren’t greeted by teenage joyriders.

“Get this: a 68-year-old woman was arrested after tearing up the courthouse lawn,” the report confirmed.

The driver was identified by authorities as 68-year-old Lorraine Wilkerson.

When responding deputies pulled Lorraine Wilkerson over and demanded an explanation for the chaotic landscaping, she offered an excuse straight out of a bizarre comedy script. According to official arrest affidavits, Wilkerson told investigators that she hadn’t eaten anything all day and that the “margaritas seemed to be extra strong”.

The situation deteriorated as first responders realized just how heavily impaired she was. Wilkerson was reportedly slurring heavily and was completely incapable of telling officers what day or year it was.

To make matters worse, as deputies stood directly beside her driver-side door questioning her, she allegedly reached down, turned the key, and tried to restart the engine to drive off in front of the entire squad.

Officers quickly intervened, shut the car down, and took her into custody. Lorraine Wilkerson was booked into the Jennings County Jail and formally charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated (OWI) along with criminal mischief for the extensive damage left across the courthouse grounds.
