PTI raises alarm over secret London doctor visit for Imran Khan
ISLAMABAD – The opposition Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Tuesday raised an alarm over the federal government’s reported admission that a specialist doctor was “secretly” brought in from London to examine incarcerated party founder Imran Khan inside Adiala Jail after his blood pressure remained dangerously high for weeks.
This deepens PTI’s fears over deteriorating health of former Prime Minister Khan and the manner in which he is being treated in jail, PTI Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram said in a statement. He came down hard on the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) led ruling alliance, saying the federal government’s admission about the foreign specialist’s visit to assess Khan’s condition and modify his treatment plan was worrisome for them. A day earlier, PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja said at a press conference that the government team, during talks with the opposition, informed them that a doctor from London had been called in after Khan’s elevated blood pressure persisted for several weeks. He said it was the foreign doctors’ prescription that helped bring the party chief’s blood pressure back to normal.

Later, Adviser to the Prime minister on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah Khan confirmed the development.
Information Secretary Akram questioned why the party leadership and Khan’s family had been kept uninformed about such a serious medical development and why his personal physicians continued to be denied direct access to him.
“The nation will no longer tolerate secrecy or delays regarding the jailed leader’s medical care,” he said. He demanded that the PTI founder should be shifted to Shifa International Hospital immediately, with unrestricted access for his family, lawyers and party leaders, and that his treatment be conducted under the supervision of his personal physicians. “If the government has nothing to hide, it should immediately allow Khan’s personal physicians, family members and party representatives to meet him and independently assess his condition,” he said.
