Jail superintendent arrested for allegedly attempting to bribe IG prisons
LAHORE – Superintendent of District Jail Attock Imran Naveed Ashraf has been arrested for allegedly attempting to bribe Inspector General Prisons Punjab Mian Salik Jalal. According to the reports, Ashraf visited the IG’s residence on Tuesday night and, after meeting him, allegedly returned with an envelope containing cash and placed it on the table in an attempt to offer a bribe. The IG refused to accept the money and immediately informed the Punjab Home Secretary. Following directions from the authorities, the Anti-Corruption Punjab took action and arrested the jail superintendent, the department said. The Punjab Home Department subsequently suspended Ashraf and initiated proceedings against him under the Punjab Employees Efficiency, Discipline and Accountability (PEEDA) Act 2006. In a related administrative move, Additional Superintendent Central Jail Lahore Kashif Ali has been appointed as the new Superintendent of District Jail Attock. The Home Department said it was following a zero-tolerance policy against corruption, misconduct, negligence and violations of rules, describing the action as an example of departmental accountability in line with the Punjab chief minister’s vision.
