Woman Who Allegedly Raped Her Neighbor’s Daughter in KZN Has Been Found Guilty And Jailed
A 19-year-old woman has been sentenced to 20 years in prison after being convicted of raping her nine-year-old neighbour in the Ibisi area of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.
The Umzimkhulu Regional Court imposed the lengthy sentence after hearing evidence surrounding the sexual assault of the child. According to KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda, the woman called the nine-year-old girl into her room, instructed her to remove her clothes and sexually assaulted her with her fingers.
The case was among several serious sexual-offence matters recently concluded by the Umzimkhulu Regional Court following investigations conducted by detectives from the Kokstad Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit.
Police said the court dealt with a number of disturbing cases involving sexual violence against women and children, resulting in severe prison sentences for those convicted.
In a separate case, 33-year-old Tenes Hassan was handed six life sentences after being convicted of raping six women in Umzimkhulu between January and December 2022.
Investigators said Hassan targeted homes where women were either living alone or staying with their children. He reportedly broke into the properties, demanded money and mobile phones from his victims and subsequently raped them. Police said many of the attacks occurred during the early hours of the morning, usually between 2am and 3am.
Detectives from the Kokstad FCS Unit were able to connect Hassan to all six rape cases through DNA evidence collected during their investigations. In addition to the six life sentences, Hassan received another eight-year prison term for housebreaking.
The Umzimkhulu Regional Court also sentenced a 45-year-old man to life imprisonment for the rape of his five-year-old niece.
The offence occurred in the Gowan Lea policing area on December 28, 2025. Police said the young girl had been playing at a neighbour’s home when her uncle called her to his residence. Her brother reportedly followed her, but the man chased him away before sexually assaulting the child.
KwaZulu-Natal police welcomed the successful prosecutions, highlighting the work of investigators responsible for gathering evidence and preparing the cases for court.
Authorities also confirmed that the names of all three convicted offenders will be entered into South Africa’s National Register for Sex Offenders.
The sentences underscore the seriousness with which courts are treating sexual offences, particularly crimes involving children and vulnerable victims.
