Sifuna Claims State Crackdown on Sponsors Could Lock Him Out of Machoka’s Sh 25,000 VVIP Party

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has sparked reactions online after a post attributed to him claimed he might miss veteran broadcaster Fred Obachi Machoka’s 50th anniversary celebration due to the high ticket cost.

In a post shared by A.M Media on Monday, October 6, 2026, Sifuna is quoted as saying, “The government has really gone after my sponsors. I might not be able to afford the Sh 25,000 ticket for Fred Obachi Machoka’s 50th anniversary in broadcasting at Ulinzi Grounds.”

The event in question is the much-anticipated Machoka at 50 Grand Concert, set for Saturday, October 10, at the Ulinzi Sports Complex in Nairobi. The concert will mark 50 years of broadcasting for Fred Obachi Machoka, famed for his Roga Roga show on Radio Citizen.

According to organizers, the celebration will feature a star-studded lineup headlined by Congolese rumba legend Koffi Olomide, alongside Mbilia Bel, Sam Fan Thomas, Les Wanyika, Them Mushrooms and Freshly Mwamburi.

Tickets are being sold via Viutickets with Regular going for KSh 5,000, VIP at KSh 15,000 and VVIP at KSh 25,000, while a table for six is priced at KSh 140,000.

Machoka, a former General Service Unit officer turned broadcasting icon, was feted by the Media Council of Kenya in July for his five-decade contribution to Kenyan media.
