Ruto Forced to Cut Short Speech As Teachers Heckle Him At Kasarani Event,”Relax Mimi Ndio Kusema”
President William Ruto encountered strong resistance from teachers while addressing the World Teachers’ Day celebrations at the Kasarani Indoor Arena.
His speech was repeatedly interrupted by loud jeers and heckling from the educators, forcing him to pause several times as he attempted to restore order. Ruto urged the crowd to remain calm and allow him to speak, while reminding them of his position as Head of State.
The tension centred on the implementation period of the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) between the government and teachers’ unions.
Ruto explained that the two sides had initially agreed on a four-year implementation period. However, teachers have been pushing for a two-year cycle, arguing that the shorter period would better address prevailing economic conditions.
The situation became more tense when Ruto initially maintained that the existing four-year agreement should be completed before any move to a shorter arrangement. His position was met with renewed protests and jeers from the teachers.
As the uproar intensified, the President softened his position and offered to intervene in the matter. He pointed out that the current agreement had already entered its third year and said he would personally look into the terms and consider the teachers’ concerns.
The concession helped calm the audience, allowing Ruto to continue and conclude his address. The development has raised hopes among teachers that the CBA could be reviewed before the current agreement expires.
