Prepare for Rains for the Next 6 Days If You Live in These Parts of Kenya

The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has predicted rainfall across more than 40 counties between October 6 and October 12, 2026, with several parts of the country likely to experience showers during the afternoon and at night.

The forecast covers Baringo, Bomet, Bungoma, Busia, Elgeyo Marakwet, Embu, Garissa, Homa Bay, Kajiado, Kakamega, Kericho, Kiambu, Kilifi, Kirinyaga, Kisii, Kisumu, Kitui, Kwale, Laikipia, Lamu, Machakos, Makueni, Mandera, Marsabit, Meru, Migori, Mombasa, Murang’a, Nairobi, Nakuru, Nandi, Narok, Nyamira, Nyandarua, Nyeri, Siaya, Taita Taveta, Tana River, Tharaka-Nithi, Trans Nzoia, Turkana, Uasin Gishu, Vihiga, Wajir and West Pokot.

According to KMD, afternoon showers are likely in Embu, Garissa, Kajiado, Kiambu, Kilifi, Kirinyaga, Kitui, Kwale, Laikipia, Lamu, Machakos, Makueni, Mandera, Marsabit, Meru, Mombasa, Murang’a, Nairobi, Nyandarua, Nyeri, Taita Taveta, Tana River, Tharaka-Nithi and Wajir.

Nighttime rainfall is expected in Bungoma, Busia, Embu, Homa Bay, Kajiado, Kakamega, Kiambu, Kilifi, Kirinyaga, Kisumu, Kitui, Kwale, Laikipia, Lamu, Machakos, Mandera, Marsabit, Meru, Migori, Mombasa, Murang’a, Nairobi, Nyandarua, Nyeri, Siaya, Tana River, Tharaka-Nithi, Vihiga and Wajir.

Meanwhile, afternoon sunny intervals are expected in Isiolo, Samburu and Turkana. KMD has forecast partly cloudy nights in Baringo, Bomet, Elgeyo Marakwet, Kericho, Kisii, Garissa, Nakuru, Nandi, Narok, Nyamira, Makueni, Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, Taita Taveta and West Pokot.

The forecast also points to wide differences in temperatures across the country. Mandera could register the highest maximum temperature at 39°C, followed by Lodwar at 38°C and Wajir at 37°C. Kisumu is expected to reach 36°C, while Garissa could record a high of 34°C.

Mombasa is forecast to reach 31°C, while Nairobi could experience a maximum of 30°C. Nakuru is expected to record 29°C, with Marsabit and Eldoret each reaching about 27°C.

At night, Nyahururu is expected to be among the coldest areas, with temperatures dropping to 4°C. Eldoret could record a minimum of 8°C, while Nairobi and Nakuru are forecast to fall to 12°C. Marsabit could experience temperatures as low as 16°C.

KMD’s review of weather conditions between September 28 and October 4 showed that rainfall was recorded in several parts of the country, including Kisii, Kakamega, Marsabit, Busia and Bungoma.

Kisii received the highest seven-day rainfall total during the period, recording 55.3mm at the Kisii Meteorological Station. The highest amount recorded within 24 hours was 34.2mm at an automatic weather station at St. John’s Nyamagwa Boys High School in Kisii County on September 29.

Mandera recorded the highest daily maximum temperature during the review period at 39°C on October 2. In contrast, Nyahururu registered the lowest daily minimum temperature at 1.8°C on September 30.

The department further reported that rainfall totals across the country were lower between September 28 and October 4 compared with the previous review period of September 21 to 27.

KMD categorises rainfall of less than 5mm within 24 hours as light, while 5mm to 20mm is considered moderate. Amounts ranging from 21mm to 50mm are classified as heavy, while rainfall exceeding 50mm falls under the very heavy category.

The department has advised the public to keep checking official weather updates throughout the week, as weather conditions can change and rainfall patterns may vary from one area to another.
