Details of doctor’s directives to Oburu Oginga after hospitalisation
Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party Leader Dr Oburu Oginga is continuing with his recovery after his recent hospitalisation, with his doctors issuing specific instructions on how he should conduct himself as he resumes his duties.
The details of the medical advice emerged on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, as Oburu’s secretariat moved to address reports circulating on social media about the health and wellbeing of the veteran politician.
While the office did not disclose the specific condition for which Oburu was hospitalised, it revealed that his doctors have placed restrictions on some of his activities as he continues his recovery.
The secretariat said the ODM leader remains alert and actively follows key political and national developments despite the medical advice.
According to the statement, Oburu has been ordered to take a forced period of rest and reduce heavy physical engagements.
“While Dr. Oburu continues to observe strict directives from his doctors to take a forced rest and limit heavy physical engagements, he remains fully updated, mentally alert, and deeply engaged in key party and national matters,” the statement said.
The directive means the ODM leader is expected to limit strenuous activities as he continues his recovery.
The secretariat, however, did not disclose how long the medical restrictions are expected to remain in place.
It also did not reveal the specific illness or medical condition that led to his hospitalisation.
Despite the restrictions, the secretariat said Oburu remains engaged in important party and national matters.
In particular, the office revealed that he was preparing his official speech for the handover ceremony of the Raila Odinga Mausoleum at Kang’o ka Jaramogi.
“In an ironic twist of fate to the merchants of propaganda, at the exact moment these malicious rumors were being manufactured and spread online, Dr. Oburu was actively in the middle of preparing his official speech for the high-profile handover ceremony of the Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga Mausoleum at Kang’o ka Jaramogi,” the statement said.
The revelation suggests that although Oburu has been advised to reduce his physical engagements, he continues to participate in key political activities behind the scenes.
Oburu’s office stated in response to social media reports concerning the ODM leader’s health.
The secretariat categorically rejected the reports, describing them as “malicious, unfounded fake news and propaganda”.
It assured ODM members, the people of Siaya County and Kenyans that Oburu was safe and in good spirits.
“We wish to assure the general public, members of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), the people of Siaya County, and the entire nation that Dr. Oburu Oginga is well, safe, and in good spirits,” the statement said.
The office accused individuals circulating the reports of using social media platforms to spread false narratives and cause distress to Oburu’s family and members of the public.
