From fake eviction to N160m: How Temi Nkem won BBNaija Season 11

Temi Nkem has gone from facing what looked like a premature exit from Big Brother Naija to becoming the winner of Season 11, but her victory was far from a runaway win.

The 21-year-old, whose real name is Temitope Chigbue, secured 25.87% of the final votes to beat Aikou, who finished with 23.68%. Sheba placed third with 9.80%.

That means Temi beat Aikou by just 2.19 percentage points in a closely fought final vote.

The result was particularly striking because Temi’s BBNaija journey had appeared to be over before the finale.

During the ninth week, she was called out alongside Tram and Ricky in what viewers believed was a triple eviction. Instead, Biggie revealed that the eviction was fake and secretly kept the three housemates before returning them to the main house.

Temi took full advantage of the second chance.

She eventually survived until the final night, where nine housemates were initially left in the competition. Barry, Oyin, Ricky, Flora, Tram and Bluethopia were subsequently eliminated before the final three became Temi, Aikou and Sheba.

Her victory also capped a season in which she deliberately presented herself as difficult to ignore.

When she entered the house, Temi described herself as someone who brought “luxury” and “spice” and said she wanted to be bold, vibrant and impossible to ignore. Her official profile listed her as a student with interests including golfing, eating and walking.

But behind the outspoken personality was a housemate who admitted she was playing a calculated game.

In a diary session, Temi told Biggie that some of what viewers saw from her was real while some was an act, saying she liked being underestimated.

That strategy, combined with her personality and the support of her fanbase, the Teminators, ultimately carried her to the final night.

Temi’s victory also makes her the fifth woman to win Big Brother Naija.

She leaves the show with a prize package valued at ₦160 million, including ₦90 million in cash, a brand-new SUV and other sponsored prizes. The original ₦100 million cash component was reduced after ₦10 million was allocated to the season’s Most Influential Player of the Week fund.

So, Temi Nkem’s Season 11 victory was not simply about being the last housemate standing.

She survived a fake eviction, navigated several controversial moments and made it through a final vote in which the gap between first and second place was only 2.19 percentage points.

After 70 days in Biggie’s house, the housemate who once appeared to have been sent home ended up taking the crown.
