“Stop Using Paper, Go Digital” –Haruna Orders GES to Change How Promoted Teachers’ Data Is Processed
According to a report by JoyNews on Sunday October 4, 2026, Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu has raised concerns about the continued use of paper-based processes in handling the details of teachers who have been promoted within the Ghana Education Service (GES).
The Minister made the observation during a visit to GES staff who are currently working on the data of promoted teachers for submission to the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department.
According to Haruna Iddrisu, the manual system of processing the information is not efficient enough and could create unnecessary delays in completing the process.
He said there is a need for the Ghana Education Service to adopt an electronic system that will allow the details of promoted teachers to be processed and submitted more efficiently.
The Minister stressed the importance of using technology to improve administrative processes within the education sector. He noted that relying heavily on physical documents and manual procedures could make the work more difficult for staff and slow down the delivery of services.
Haruna Iddrisu therefore called for a more modern approach to the processing of teachers’ information. He indicated that an electronic system would make it easier to manage the data and ensure that relevant information is submitted to the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department in a timely manner.
The Education Minister’s comments come as authorities work to process the details of teachers who have received promotions within the Ghana Education Service.
The processing of promotion data is important because it enables the relevant government institutions to update teachers’ records and make the necessary administrative and payroll adjustments.
Haruna Iddrisu’s call is expected to encourage the GES to move further toward digitalising its administrative operations.
He believes that adopting an electronic system will help reduce the challenges associated with the manual handling of teachers’ records and improve efficiency in the processing of promotion-related information.
