Prepare for Heavy Rains for the Next 24-Hours if You Live in the Following Specified Areas in Kenya
The Kenya Meteorological Department has released a fresh 24-hour weather forecast covering the period from 9pm on Sunday, October 4, to 9pm on Monday, October 5, with most parts of the country expected to experience generally settled conditions.
However, residents in several counties, particularly in the northern and coastal regions, have been advised to prepare for rainfall.
Light to moderate rainfall is forecast in Kisumu, Siaya, Kwale, Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, Taita Taveta, Garissa, Mandera, Wajir and Marsabit counties. Some of these areas could also experience thunderstorms, making it important for residents to monitor changing conditions during the forecast period.
Morning rains accompanied by afternoon showers and thunderstorms are expected over the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin and the Rift Valley.
The areas include Nandi, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Siaya, Busia, Baringo, Nakuru, Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, West Pokot, Kisii, Nyamira, Kericho, Bomet, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori and Narok.
Evening and night showers could occur over most of these areas, although rainfall is expected to be localised.
Residents should therefore remain alert, particularly in places prone to poor drainage and flooding.
Cold and cloudy conditions with morning rains giving rise to sunny intervals are expected over the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi County.
The areas covered are Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka-Nithi and Nairobi.
Nairobi is expected to experience partly cloudy conditions in the morning, followed by sunny intervals during the afternoon.
The capital is forecast to record a maximum temperature of 27°C and a minimum of 16°C.
The far northern region will require particular attention during the forecast period. Mandera and Wajir are expected to receive moderate showers and thunderstorms, while Marsabit could experience light showers and isolated thunderstorms.
Strong southerly to southeasterly winds exceeding 25 knots are also expected over parts of Turkana, Samburu and Marsabit.
Elsewhere, generally settled conditions are expected, although isolated weather changes may occur in some locations.
Residents in areas expecting rainfall and thunderstorms are advised to follow subsequent KMD updates and take appropriate precautions.
Motorists should exercise caution on wet roads, while communities near rivers and flood-prone areas should avoid crossing swollen waterways whenever conditions deteriorate.
