Good News for All Kenyans with Safaricom Lines as Company Makes Major Announcement

M-Pesa customers in Kenya are set to have greater visibility over transaction costs following the reported introduction of a Cost Calculator on Safaricom’s MyOne App.

The new feature allows users to check applicable M-Pesa sending and withdrawal charges before completing a transaction. The move is expected to make it easier for customers to understand the fees they will incur and plan their transactions accordingly, particularly those who frequently send money, pay bills, make purchases or withdraw cash.

The development comes as Safaricom continues implementing changes to its M-Pesa tariff structure, including adjustments affecting services such as Pochi la Biashara and Lipa na M-Pesa Buy Goods and Business Till transactions.

Safaricom’s published information confirms that Business Till transactions operate under specific merchant charges, with payments of KSh200 and below attracting no charge to the business owner under the applicable merchant tariff. The company also states that customer payments made through Lipa na M-Pesa Buy Goods are generally not charged, apart from payments made at fuel stations.

The revised structure is particularly significant for small businesses that rely on M-Pesa to collect payments and manage daily operations. Lower transaction costs could help merchants retain more of their earnings, although the actual benefit will depend on the type and value of transactions conducted.

The Cost Calculator could also help reduce confusion surrounding the changing tariffs by allowing customers to establish the likely cost before confirming a transaction. This may be especially useful for users handling larger or frequent transfers.
