List of Counties to Expect Heavy Rainfall and Cold on Sunday Evening
Residents of Mombasa, Kwale and Kilifi should expect the heaviest rainfall in the latest 24-hour weather outlook from the Kenya Meteorological Department.
The forecast was released at 3pm on Saturday, October 3, 2026, and covers 9pm Saturday to 9pm on Sunday, October 4.
Moderate showers are expected in the three coastal counties in the morning, with lighter rain in the afternoon.
The department defines moderate rainfall as between 5mm and 20mm within 24 hours.
Southerly to south-easterly winds exceeding 25 knots (12.5m/s) are also expected over parts of Turkana, Samburu and Marsabit.
Daytime highs will reach 30°C in Mombasa, 28°C in Kwale and 29°C in Kilifi, with overnight lows of 23°C, 22°C and 24°C respectively.
Lamu will see light morning showers and a high of 31°C, while Tana River starts cloudy with sunny intervals before light afternoon rain.
Garissa may get light morning rain and likely afternoon showers, with temperatures between 24°C and 34°C.
Mandera will have light showers overnight into the morning and, alongside Turkana, will be the hottest at 38°C.
Moyale in Marsabit is likely to get light morning rain, with temperatures between 17°C and 27°C, while Taita Taveta stays dry until scattered light showers in the afternoon.
Nairobi will begin Sunday cloudy with sunny breaks, followed by light afternoon showers over scattered areas, with temperatures between 15°C and 27°C.
Similar afternoon showers are forecast for Meru, Tharaka-Nithi, Embu, Isiolo, Nyeri and Kajiado, while Kiambu and Murang’a may see light rain at various points in the day.
Elgeyo Marakwet faces light afternoon showers with thunder and lightning, and Nyandarua will record the lowest temperature at 6°C.
Most of western Kenya, the Rift Valley and Nyanza will remain largely dry, though Bungoma, Busia, Siaya and Kisumu may get light morning rain.
In the 24 hours to 9am on October 3, Suba recorded 7.3mm of rainfall, Kisii 4.9mm and Malindi a trace amount.
Sunrise on Sunday is at 6:17am in Nairobi and 6:05am in Mombasa, with sunset at 6:25pm and 6:14pm respectively.
Nakuru, Kisumu and Eldoret will see sunrise at 6:21am, 6:26am and 6:24am, and sunset at 6:27pm, 6:33pm and 6:30pm.
