Expect Heavy Morning and Afternoon Rains for the Next 24 Hours if You Live in These Areas

The Kenya Meteorological Department has forecast rainfall in several parts of the country, with coastal and northern counties expected to experience the wettest conditions between Saturday night and Sunday, October 4, 2026.

The forecast issued at 3:00pm on Saturday covers the period from 9:00pm on October 3 to 9:00pm on October 4. The department expects light to moderate rainfall in Kwale, Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, Taita Taveta, Tana River, Garissa, Mandera and Marsabit.

The weather agency has also identified parts of Turkana, Samburu and Marsabit as areas likely to experience strong winds. The southerly to southeasterly winds could exceed 25 knots, equivalent to approximately 12.5 metres per second.

Along the Coast, Mombasa is expected to remain partly cloudy during the night, with isolated light showers possible. Sunday will bring periods of sunshine alongside moderate morning showers and lighter afternoon showers. Temperatures are expected to reach 30°C during the day and fall to about 23°C at night.

Similar weather is expected in Kwale and Kilifi, where partly cloudy skies will give way to sunny intervals and showers during the day. Tana River and Lamu could also experience sunny periods accompanied by occasional light showers.

Further north, Garissa and Wajir are expected to remain partly cloudy overnight, with isolated areas of light rain possible on Sunday morning. Mandera could receive light showers during the night and some rain in the morning, while Marsabit is expected to have sunny intervals with isolated rainfall, particularly around Moyale.

Several counties in central and eastern Kenya, including Isiolo, Meru, Tharaka-Nithi, Embu, Kitui and Machakos, are expected to have partly cloudy conditions at night. Some areas could receive light rain or showers during the day, although Makueni is expected to have sunny intervals.

Nyandarua is expected to record relatively cool temperatures, with the mercury ranging from a minimum of 6°C to a maximum of 24°C.

The department’s latest rainfall observations showed that Suba recorded more than 7mm between 9:00am on October 2 and 9:00am on October 3. Kisii recorded about 4.8mm during the same period, while Malindi received a smaller amount.

According to the department’s terminology, rainfall below 5mm is classified as light, while amounts between 5mm and 20mm are considered moderate. The phrase “few places” refers to less than a third of an area, while “likely” represents a probability of between 51 and 75 percent.
