Who is Pranavi Sharath Urs? Indian golfer clinches historic gold, teams up with Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar to win silver for India

Pranavi Sharath Urs found herself on the verge of making history as the women's golf tournament reached its final hole. With the gold medal still within reach, the Indian golfer had to hold her nerve under immense pressure.

She delivered when it mattered most. A crucial par putt on the 18th hole secured a memorable individual triumph for Pranavi, while India also came away with a team medal in the women's event alongside Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar.

The final hole proved decisive for Pranavi Urs, who stayed composed when the pressure was at its peak. She sank the final par putt to finish one shot clear of Singapore's Shannon Xuan Yin Tan and China's Ruoning Yin and secure the gold medal.

The triumph made Pranavi the first Indian woman to win a gold medal in golf, giving the victory a historic significance beyond the final leaderboard.

Pranavi's victory also ended India's wait for a gold medal in golf that had stretched back to Shiv Kapur's men's individual triumph in 2002.

Pranavi Urs' individual triumph was followed by another podium finish for India in the women's team event. Alongside Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar, she helped India secure the silver medal, with all three contributing to the team's overall performance.

Aditi carded 67 in the final round, while Diksha finished with 77. The two best scores counted towards the team medal standings, leaving India at 14-under 546, behind China's gold-medal total of 22-under 538.

Her historic individual win, combined with the team silver, gave India a memorable double podium finish in women's golf.

Born on April 15, 2003, in Mysuru, Karnataka, Pranavi Sharath Urs took up golf at the age of eight and began developing her game at the Jayachamaraja Wadiyar Golf Club. Encouraged by her parents, she progressed through junior and amateur competitions before making her mark as one of India's promising young golfers.

Pranavi soon began collecting titles on the domestic circuit, including wins in the second and third legs of the Hero Women's Pro Golf Tour in 2020. Those performances helped pave the way for her move into international golf and the Ladies European Tour (LET).

Pranavi continued to make her presence felt on the international circuit, finishing third at the 2024 Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España to equal her previous-best result at the Helsingborg Open.

She then achieved another first in 2025 at the IGPL Invitational Mumbai, becoming the first Indian woman to win a professional tournament featuring both men and women. Pranavi sealed the title in style, carding an impressive eight-under 60 in the final round to finish 14-under for the tournament.

Pranavi's biggest breakthrough came at the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, where she reached a new high in her career. Her campaign ultimately produced two medals, adding another significant chapter to her historic individual triumph.
