WANTAM Chants Rocks the Air, Kindiki Forced to End His Speech and Flee Amid Clash With Youths
Deputy President Kithure Kindiki’s political engagement in Limuru, Kiambu County, was reportedly disrupted by loud “WANTAM” chants, creating a tense moment during a heavily mobilised gathering.
According to the account circulating from the event, the chants grew louder as Kindiki addressed the crowd, eventually forcing him to cut short his speech and leave the venue.
The same account claims that attendees had been mobilised with payments of Sh4,000 each, although that payment claim has not been independently verified.
National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah was also reported to have left the venue as the “WANTAM” chants intensified.
The incident comes as Kindiki steps up his political engagements in the Mt Kenya region ahead of the 2027 General Election.
On Saturday October 3, the Deputy President addressed residents in Limuru, where he spoke about government programmes, dairy-sector investments and the fight against illicit alcohol.
Kindiki also called for political tolerance and warned against ethnic mobilisation, saying political differences should not translate into hostility or violence.
The reported chants, however, underline the increasingly competitive political atmosphere in Mt Kenya, where rival political formations are seeking to consolidate support ahead of the 2027 elections.
The “WANTAM” slogan has become closely associated with opposition to President William Ruto’s re-election campaign and has featured prominently at political gatherings linked to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and his Democratic Citizens Party (DCP).
The Limuru episode is therefore likely to attract attention as leaders across the political divide intensify their efforts to win over voters in the region.
