REVEALED: Why Tycoon Chivayo and His Wife’s Bodies Won’t Be Seen by Mourners During Burial
The relatives of Zimbabwean tycoon Wicknell Chivayo and his spouse, Lucy Muteke, have announced that their bodies will not be exhibited to mourners at the shared funeral.
The family reached this choice because of the condition of the remains after the helicopter accident that took the couple’s lives on September 30, 2026.Family representative Hebert Chivayo, an uncle of the businessman, delivered the announcement on Friday evening.
Relatives, friends, government officials, church leaders and hundreds of mourners had assembled at Chivayo’s Gletwin home in Harare.
Hebert explained that the crash at Kudenga Farm near Marondera left a dreadful scene.
The victims sustained grave injuries and burns, which made it impossible for the public to see the bodies before the burial.
He further noted that human remains and body parts were strewn across the crash site, making it extremely difficult to gather and identify them.
According to the family, several victims were severely burnt on impact.Forensic specialists are now inspecting the remains and using DNA testing to identify and match those of all five people who perished.
Chivayo and Muteke were aboard the aircraft with pilots Captain Calvin Tafirei Soda and Captain Courage Matavirwa, plus a bodyguard, when it plunged down at Kudenga Farm. Nobody on board survived.
The tragedy has stunned many Zimbabweans. Chivayo was a famous figure who openly enjoyed an extravagant way of life and was frequently seen alongside influential people.
The family has not yet given a date for the burial, as the identification work is still underway.Hebert also revealed that Chivayo had once stated clearly that he wanted the bulk of his fortune to go to his children should he die.
The family said it will honour that wish and ensure the children receive his estate, since they are the lawful heirs.
