Minister says export growth, local manufacturing central to strengthening economy

Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has said Pakistan’s system is set for a reset that will bring improvements, while stressing the need to boost exports and strengthen domestic industry.

Addressing a ceremony at the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), Naqvi said national development, increased exports and foreign exchange earnings are the backbone of the country’s economy.

Naqvi said increasing exports is essential for strengthening Pakistan’s economy and generating foreign exchange. He stressed that the country needs to focus on increasing exports and expanding domestic production.

The federal minister said adopting a stronger “Made in Pakistan” approach could help address the country’s economic challenges. He called for maximizing the production and use of locally manufactured goods.

Naqvi said “Made in Pakistan” should be the country’s slogan and emphasized the importance of promoting local industry and domestic production.

He said Pakistan needs to manufacture more products domestically rather than relying heavily on imported goods. According to the minister, strengthening local industry would support national development while also helping generate foreign exchange.

The interior minister said he had visited Iran several times and observed that goods were produced locally there.

“If Iran can manufacture everything itself, why can’t we?” Naqvi asked, arguing that Pakistan should learn from the experience and systems adopted by countries that have made progress in developing their domestic industries.

He said Pakistan should study the experiences of progressive nations and adopt systems that can contribute to economic development and stronger local production.

Naqvi also said work on the proposed business passport is proceeding rapidly.

The initiative was mentioned as part of efforts linked to facilitating the business community, while the minister reiterated the importance of creating an environment that supports industry, exports and economic activity.

The interior minister’s remarks came as the government continues to emphasize export growth, domestic manufacturing and foreign exchange generation as key components of Pakistan’s economic strategy.
