Nurse Posts Pay Slip Showing How Much Kenyan Nurses Earn as She Gets Unusual Salary Cuts
A nurse working in Murang’a County has attracted attention online after sharing an August 2026 payslip showing zero earnings, deductions and net salary.
The payslip reportedly lists total earnings as 0.00, total deductions as -0.00 and net pay as 0.00. At the bottom of the document is the county’s motto, “A values-driven citizen-centric public service,” which drew further reactions from people who viewed the image.
The nurse reportedly sent the payslip privately to the All Kenya Nurses Facebook page on Monday, September 28, explaining that she was frustrated and unsure where to direct her concerns.
“I am a frustrated nurse working in Muranga County,” she wrote.
The page administrator subsequently shared the document and questioned how a health worker would explain such a situation to their family.
The post attracted numerous reactions and comments from nurses and other social media users. Some participants claimed that similar issues were affecting healthcare workers in other counties.
One commenter identifying himself as a nurse said his county was also issuing payslips showing zero amounts. Another user claimed that nurses in Homa Bay could access their payslips online even though their salaries had reportedly not been paid.
Other contributors used the discussion to raise broader concerns about the treatment and remuneration of nurses in Kenya. One commenter argued that nurses receive greater appreciation when working abroad and called for stronger representation of the profession.
Another participant questioned the decision to devolve health services to county governments, arguing that healthcare workers were better managed when the sector was under the national government.
The discussion has consequently renewed questions about the ability of county administrations to process salaries for healthcare workers consistently and on time.
The payslip surfaced shortly after a nurses’ strike linked to salary-related disputes between health workers and county governments. Reports indicated that the industrial action was resolved on September 9.
However, the circumstances surrounding the individual nurse’s zero payslip have not been independently established from the information provided. It is therefore unclear whether the document reflects a wider payroll problem, an administrative error or another issue affecting the employee’s account.
The incident has nevertheless reignited debate over the working conditions and remuneration of nurses employed by county governments across Kenya.
