Final Moments: Viral Video Captures Tycoon Wicknell Chivayo Before Fatal Chopper Crash

HARARE — Just hours after world media outlets confirmed the death of flamboyant Zimbabwean businessman Sir Wicknell Chivayo, a haunting final video showing the tycoon moments before his death has surfaced on social media.

The clip, which has rapidly gained traction across global digital platforms, captures Chivayo in high spirits, laughing and greeting onlookers alongside close associates.

Filmed adjacent to the ill-fated aircraft shortly before takeoff, the video shows the businessman exuding his signature confidence, sharing lighthearted moments with friends and crew members before boarding. Internet users have dubbed the footage his “final flight” record.

Tragedy struck shortly after the helicopter departed, when the aircraft suddenly went down in the Marondera Rural district, located east of the capital, Harare.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) and family representatives confirmed that all six occupants on board—including Chivayo and his wife, Lucy “Lulu” Muteke—perished in the catastrophic crash.

Aviation safety authorities and law enforcement officers have launched an emergency investigation at the crash site to determine the technical cause behind the sudden downing of the chopper.

The viral video has sparked an outpouring of grief and shock from followers and business peers online. Known for his opulent lifestyle and prominent social media presence, Chivayo’s abrupt demise has sent shockwaves through the region’s corporate and political circles.

As investigators piece together the timeline of the mechanical failure, the short video remains a poignant last visual record of the tycoon enjoying his final moments before tragedy unfolded.
