Tooro Throne Dispute Takes New Turn As Alleged Birth Certificate Of Oyo’s Son Emerges
The dispute over the Tooro Kingdom throne has taken a fresh turn after an alleged birth document said to belong to Prince Jacksonville Jacob Oyo, reportedly the son of the late King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, surfaced online. The heavily redacted document reportedly circulated on social media on September 28 and 29, 2026, showing what appear to be newborn footprints alongside blacked-out names, dates and other details.
Supporters of the late king’s alleged son have pointed to the document as potentially important in the succession dispute, while others have questioned its authenticity because of the extensive redactions. There has, however, been no public verification from NIRA, the relevant US vital-records authorities, the hospital allegedly associated with the document, or the Tooro Kingdom confirming that it is genuine or that it belongs to Oyo’s biological son.
The controversy over the child, popularly referred to as “Baby King” or “Baby Oyo,” emerged after King Oyo died on August 27 in the United States. Tooro Kingdom Prime Minister Calvin Armstrong Rwomiire had earlier said the late king left behind a prince whose identity would be revealed at the appropriate time.
The Babiito royal clan subsequently selected Prince Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I, also known as Edward Rukidi Kijanangoma, as the new Omukama. The emergence of the alleged birth document now adds fresh attention to the unresolved succession dispute. However, until independently authenticated, the document does not establish the child’s identity, parentage or legal claim to the Tooro throne.
