Teenage Taxi Driver Arrested After Fatal Stabbing of Elderly Colleague in Nateete
A 19-year-old taxi driver has been arrested in Nateete on suspicion of fatally stabbing a fellow special-hire driver in Central A, Lubaga Division, Kampala.
Police named the suspect as Muwonge Sinan. The deceased is Thomas Batiibwe Twase, 70, a special-hire driver who lived in Bulaga Zone B, Wakiso District.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SP Rachael Kawala said the incident took place at about 6:30pm on September 30, 2026, in Central A, Nateete.
Police allege that Sinan came upon Twase inside a vehicle and stabbed him with a knife, then ran away.
Kawala said residents chased down the suspect, caught him and handed him over to police.
Investigators have established that both men worked as special-hire drivers out of the same stage in Central A, Nateete.
Kawala explained, “The suspect, Sinan, found Twase inside a vehicle and stabbed him with a knife. The suspect reportedly fled the scene immediately after the incident but was apprehended by members of the community and handed over to police.”
Twase was rushed to Rubaga Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
“The victim was rushed to Rubaga Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead,” Kawala said.
Sinan remains in police custody while detectives investigate the circumstances of the stabbing and try to establish a motive.
