RIP: Why Former MP Was Buried Quickly Today, Just Hours After His Death

Details have emerged why former MP Abubakar Zein was buried quickly today, just hours after his death.

The former East African Legislative Assembly member was laid to rest at the Langata Muslim Cemetery in Nairobi on the same day he died, following Islamic traditions that encourage burial as soon as possible, preferably within 24 hours after death.

Abubakar passed away on Thursday morning at Avenue Hospital in Nairobi, where he had been receiving treatment after undergoing surgery. His death came only two days after the Kenya Human Rights Commission organised a fundraising concert to help raise money for his growing medical bills.

Family members, friends, and senior Muslim clerics gathered at the cemetery to give him a final farewell.

The burial was led according to Islamic customs, with his close relatives, including his sons, taking part in the final rites.

Several prominent political leaders also attended the funeral to pay their respects.

Among them were Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, DAP Kenya leader Eugene Wamalwa, former Chief Justice Willy Mutunga, and East African Legislative Assembly member Kennedy Kalonzo.

Before the burial, Kalonzo mourned Abubakar as a courageous and principled leader who always placed the country’s interests above personal gain.He said the former lawmaker played an important role in shaping Kenya’s 2010 Constitution and made significant contributions to improving governance, even though much of his work happened away from the public eye.

Kalonzo also remembered Abubakar for his leadership within the Wiper Party after serving in the East African Legislative Assembly between 2012 and 2017.

He said the former legislator believed in supporting and mentoring people regardless of their position, earning the respect of colleagues and staff alike.

He extended his condolences to Abubakar’s widow, Kashi, and their children Ibrahim, Zein, Alamin, and Khadija while praying for Allah to forgive his shortcomings and grant him eternal peace.Abubakar’s passing has left many leaders and Kenyans mourning a respected public servant whose contributions to national leadership, constitutional reform, and regional affairs will be remembered for years to come.

His swift burial reflected the Islamic faith he faithfully observed throughout his life.
