Miguna Miguna Speaks After Wicknell Chivayo’s Death as Questions Surround Fatal Helicopter Crash

Miguna Miguna has reacted to the conspiracy theories surrounding the death of Zimbabwean businessman Wicknell Chivayo, dismissing claims that the fatal helicopter crash was linked to foul play.

Chivayo and his wife, Lucy Muteke, were among six people who died after a Bell 430 helicopter crashed in Marondera district, northeastern Zimbabwe, on Wednesday, September 30.

The helicopter was reportedly travelling towards Harare when it went down at Kudenga Farm at around 5pm. A government spokesman later confirmed that there were no survivors.

Following the incident, various claims emerged online, with some people suggesting that Chivayo may have been assassinated. Others linked the crash to allegations that had previously surrounded the businessman, while some even speculated that he could have staged his own death.

Miguna addressed the speculation in a post on X, urging people not to assume that every unexpected death is the result of a deliberate act.

“Accidents happen. Planes and helicopters fall from the sky and kill their occupants,” Miguna stated, while also pointing to road crashes and other sudden deaths.

He argued that the circumstances surrounding Chivayo’s death should not automatically be interpreted as evidence of murder.

The lawyer’s remarks came as authorities continued investigating what caused the helicopter to crash.

According to George Mashababe, Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe, preliminary findings showed that fuel spilled after the impact and subsequently caused a fire that spread through the grass around the crash site.

However, investigators had not established the actual cause of the crash at the time of reporting.

Investigators also established that Chivayo and his wife had been at Gandami Chikomba, where they were overseeing construction of a rural mansion.

The couple reportedly left the site at about 4:20pm. The helicopter crashed roughly 40 minutes later.

The wreckage was scattered around the crash site, while the aircraft reportedly moved several metres from its initial point of impact before coming to rest.

Authorities cordoned off the area as investigations continued, with the bodies of the six victims remaining at the scene by midnight.

The circumstances surrounding the crash are therefore still subject to the ongoing investigation, while the claims circulating on social media had not been established by authorities.
