Meet Aliko Dangote’s Wives and 4 Children: Inside the Billionaire’s Private Family Life
Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote is widely recognised for building one of Africa’s biggest business empires, but he has generally kept his personal and family life away from the intense public attention surrounding his business activities.
Despite his prominence, relatively little verified information is publicly available about Dangote’s private affairs. A 2022 profile by DNB Stories Africa reported that the billionaire had been married twice, with both marriages ending in divorce.
Dangote’s first reported marriage was to Hajia Zainab in 1977, when he was around 20 years old. The couple had two daughters during their marriage before eventually separating.
Zainab has largely maintained a private life, and limited information is publicly available about her activities following the end of the marriage.
Dangote later married businesswoman Mariya A D Muhammad Rufai, who is reported to be the daughter of a former Bauchi State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Human Services.
That marriage also eventually ended in divorce. However, details about the relationship, including the circumstances surrounding its end, have largely remained private.
Over the years, Dangote has also been the subject of media reports linking him to other women. One of the most notable names was Nafisat Yar’Adua, daughter of former Nigerian President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.
Reports at the time suggested that Dangote may have considered marrying her, although the claims were not confirmed by the billionaire.
He was also linked by media reports to former beauty queen Sylvia Nduka. Those reports were subsequently denied by a source close to Dangote.
Beyond his marriages and reported relationships, Dangote is a father of four children, according to the 2022 DNB Stories Africa profile.
His children include three daughters, Mariya, Halima and Fatima, as well as Abdulrahman Fasasi, who was adopted and is recognised as Dangote’s son.
Some of his children have developed careers of their own while also attracting attention because of their association with one of Africa’s most prominent business families.
Halima has worked within the Dangote Group, becoming involved in the family’s extensive business interests.
Fatima, meanwhile, has pursued interests in law and business, including involvement in a cupcake business in Lagos.
The Dangote family continues to attract public interest largely because of Aliko Dangote’s position as one of Africa’s most prominent businessmen. Nevertheless, much of the family’s private life has remained outside the public domain, with the billionaire generally maintaining a distinction between his business empire and personal affairs.
