His first marriage was to Hajia Zainab in 1977, when he was about 20 years old. The couple reportedly had two daughters before their marriage ended. Dangote later married Mariya A D Muhammad Rufai, a businesswoman and daughter of a former Bauchi State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Human Services. Their marriage also ended after several years, although both Dangote and Mariya have largely kept details about their relationship private.

He was also linked to former beauty queen Sylvia Nduka, although the claims were subsequently denied by a source close to him.

Dangote is reported to have four children: three daughters, Mariya, Halima and Fatima, and an adopted son, Abdulrahman Fasasi.

His children have developed interests outside their father’s business empire. Halima has worked within Dangote Group, while Fatima has pursued interests in law and business, including a cupcake factory in Lagos.
