Man Found Murdered Near Kokapet; Police Probe Mortgage Dispute
A 45-year-old man from Khammam was found murdered near Yadav Bhavan at Neopolis in Kokapet under the Narsingi police station limits on Thursday, with police suspecting that he may have been killed elsewhere and his body dumped at the spot.
The deceased was identified as Venkat, who had been living in Hyderabad and staying in hostels near Osmania University. Serilingampally DCP Ch. Srinivas said morning walkers spotted the body and alerted the police, following which a team reached the spot and launched an investigation.
Venkat had a wife and two children in Khammam but had been separated from his family for nearly 10 years. He later moved to Hyderabad and stayed with his sister, who lives in Gandhi Nagar. As he did not want to be a burden on his sister, he started staying in hostels near Osmania University.
DCP said Venkat was involved in providing money against mortgages. A car and a cricket bat were found at the crime scene, and the vehicle was traced to a man identified as Srikanth.
Srikanth mortgaged his car with Venkat and took money from him. However, after failing to return the money, Venkat and his brother-in-law reportedly began using the vehicle for their personal business activities. During this period, the car was allegedly damaged.
Police are now examining whether Srikanth bore a grudge against Venkat over the dispute and whether it had any connection with the murder. Investigators are also probing other possible angles and examining the circumstances in which Venkat reached the spot.
Police suspect that Venkat was attacked with a cricket bat and suffered injuries to his head. The presence of the vehicle and the weapon at the scene is being examined as part of the investigation. The exact motive and circumstances leading to the murder are yet to be established, the DCP said.
