List of Leaders Who Joined Martha Karua to Celebrate the Life of Late Jackson Karua

Political leaders from across Kenya’s political divide have rallied behind People’s Liberation Party (PLP) leader Martha Karua following the death of her father, Mwalimu Jackson Karua.

The veteran teacher and respected family patriarch died at his home in Kirinyaga on September 27, 2026, after Karua and her siblings spent his final moments by his side, singing one of his favourite gospel hymns.

Karua expressed gratitude to friends, political leaders and relatives who visited the family to condole with them and celebrate her father’s life, which she described as one marked by service, education and strong values.

Among those who visited were her daughter, Hon. Waithera Chege, former Defence Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa, former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro, former Cabinet Secretary Mukhisa Kituyi and Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka.

The family also received a visit from Ida Odinga, widow of the late opposition leader Raila Odinga, who was accompanied by her daughters Rosemary and Winnie Odinga.

Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris, PNU leader Peter Munya, former Education Minister Prof. Sam Ongeri and leaders of the Democracy for Citizens Party, led by Nyandarua Senator John Methu, were also among those who paid their respects.

Messages of condolence were sent by President William Ruto, former President Uhuru Kenyatta, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, former Chief Justice David Maraga, former Attorney General Justin Muturi, Siaya Governor James Orengo and Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru.

Other leaders and public figures who conveyed their sympathies included Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah, political strategist Dennis Itumbi and Wangui Ngirici.

Reflecting on the outpouring of support, Karua said the cross-party solidarity demonstrated that Kenyans can set aside political differences during moments of grief and unite in honouring a life of integrity, service and devotion to family.

The family is expected to announce funeral arrangements in due course.
