James Orengo Finally Clears Air On Whether He’ll Join Sifuna’s Party Or Launch His Own Party
Siaya Governor James Orengo is preparing to launch a new political party that he intends to use in his bid for the presidency in the 2027 General Election.
Orengo’s spokesperson, Joshua Ayika, confirmed the development on Wednesday, September 30, announcing that the governor would unveil the political outfit soon.
In a statement shared on X, Ayika said the party would serve as the vehicle for Orengo’s presidential ambitions.
“H.E Gov James Orengo will be unveiling his political party; this is the vehicle that shall be used in his presidential bid. Mbele Kuzuri,” Ayika stated.
The party has been identified by the initials LDP, with its logo featuring a blue and white hat decorated with a green feather and a fly whisk, surrounded by a blue circular design.
The symbols are closely associated with the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who regularly used a fly whisk during public appearances and political rallies.
Orengo also referenced Raila on his Facebook page, writing, “Raila’s anniversary is approaching! Pata luku…RAO@1.”
The announcement comes amid growing political differences within the Linda Mwananchi movement, which recently endorsed Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna as its leader and presidential candidate for the 2027 elections.
Orengo was notably absent from the movement’s principals’ retreat, where Sifuna received the endorsement.
The Siaya governor had previously expressed his own presidential ambitions and reportedly advocated for Linda Mwananchi to transform into a political party rather than establish a separate outfit.
The latest announcement signals a possible separate political path for Orengo as opposition leaders prepare for the 2027 General Election.
Sifuna’s camp has also announced plans to unveil a political party in early October, setting the stage for further developments within the opposition.
