Inside Aliko Dangote’s New Chinese Made Leopard 8 SUV Worth Over KSh100 Million

Aliko Dangote, Africa’s richest person, has added another high-end vehicle to his luxury car collection after being spotted arriving at an event in Lagos in a Chinese-made Fang Cheng Bao Leopard 8, also known as the Bao 8.

According to Autojosh, the billionaire businessman was recently filmed arriving at the event in the luxury plug-in hybrid SUV before later leaving in the same vehicle. His appearance in the distinctive SUV attracted attention, particularly because of its imposing design and advanced technology.

The Leopard 8 is manufactured by Fang Cheng Bao, a premium vehicle brand under Chinese automotive giant BYD. The SUV is positioned in the luxury off-road segment and competes with established models such as the Toyota Land Cruiser 300 Series. It is offered in both six- and seven-seat configurations, combining luxury, performance and off-road capability.

The Bao 8 uses a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine working alongside two electric motors. According to the report, the hybrid powertrain produces approximately 603 horsepower and 760 Nm of torque.

Its battery system allows the SUV to travel for more than 100 kilometres using electric power alone. The combined driving range is reported to exceed 900 kilometres and can reach up to 1,200 kilometres depending on the configuration and driving conditions.

Inside the cabin, the Leopard 8 features a technology-focused interior with a 17.3-inch central multimedia display, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and another 12.3-inch screen dedicated to the front passenger.

The luxury SUV also comes with an 18-speaker Devialet sound system and a large augmented-reality head-up display designed to provide drivers with information without requiring them to take their eyes off the road.

Safety and driver-assistance features are also prominent, with the vehicle equipped with 14 airbags and Huawei’s Qiankun ADS 3.0 advanced driving-assistance system. The technology supports functions including highway driving assistance and remote parking.

Autojosh reported that the Bao 8 starts at about 380,000 yuan in China, while the six-seat version can cost up to 399,800 yuan before customisation. In Nigeria, the publication estimated that acquiring the luxury SUV could cost more than ₦120 million after importation and related expenses.
