Met Dept says Pakistan received 120.5mm of monsoon rainfall from July 1 to Sept 30

Pakistan recorded 19.3% less monsoon rainfall than normal this year, with the Meteorological Department attributing the severe decline to the impact of El Niño. The shortfall marks a level of below-normal monsoon rainfall not seen in the country for three decades.

The country received 120.5 millimetres of rainfall between July 1 and September 30, compared with the normal rainfall of 149.2mm for the same period.

Sindh experienced the most significant decline, receiving 50.8% less rainfall than normal during the monsoon season.

Balochistan also recorded a substantial shortfall, with rainfall 33.7% below normal, while Azad Kashmir received 18.4% less rainfall than its normal level.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa recorded 16.3% less rainfall than normal during the monsoon season, according to the Meteorological Department.

Gilgit-Baltistan registered a comparatively smaller deficit of 4.6%, while Punjab recorded 3.8% less rainfall than normal.

The widespread rainfall deficit reflects the uneven impact of El Niño on Pakistan’s monsoon season, with the largest shortfalls recorded in Sindh and Balochistan.

According to the Meteorological Department, Pakistan’s total monsoon rainfall stood at 120.5mm between July 1 and September 30.

The normal rainfall for the country during this period is 149.2mm, leaving a shortfall of 28.7mm and resulting in an overall 19.3% decline from the normal monsoon rainfall.
