Cedi Falls Massively Against the Dollar on Thursday, October 1, 2026, Says Bank of Ghana

The Ghana cedi came under pressure against the US dollar on Thursday, October 1, 2026, according to the latest figures from the Bank of Ghana. The central bank published the daily exchange rates on its official channels.

The rates are the average interbank rates used by commercial banks. They reflect transactions at the close of business on Wednesday, September 30, 2026.

Against the US dollar, the cedi was quoted at GH₵11.7041 for buying and GH₵11.7159 for selling. This means a buyer pays slightly more than the buying rate when purchasing dollars.

The British pound sterling recorded a buying rate of GH₵15.5220 and a selling rate of GH₵15.5376. The pound remains the strongest of the three currencies listed against the cedi.

The euro was quoted at GH₵13.2724 for buying and GH₵13.2845 for selling. It stayed well above the dollar but below the pound.

Exchange rates matter to every Ghanaian household and business. A weaker cedi raises the cost of imported goods such as fuel, food, medicine and machinery. Importers pay more for the same goods, and this can push up prices in the shops. Families who depend on foreign goods or pay school fees abroad may also feel the impact.

On the other hand, a weaker cedi can help exporters. Their dollar earnings are worth more when converted into cedis. Families who receive money from relatives abroad may also gain.

Analysts often advise businesses to plan carefully during periods of currency movement. Traders are encouraged to monitor daily rates and manage their foreign exchange needs wisely.

The Bank of Ghana publishes these rates every working day. The public can find them on the bank’s website at www.bog.gh and on its social media pages. Residents and businesses are advised to check these official sources for accurate information.
