What I wore to the Cheesecake Factory for a casual lunch (juscallmenicki)It was a random Tuesday, and I decided to head to Lenox Mall for lunch at the Cheesecake Factory and do a little shopping. I stopped by Pandora, went into American Eagle, walked around the mall, and honestly just enjoyed being out in the middle of the week.

Of course, I wanted to be cute, but I also knew I'd be doing a lot of walking, so comfort still mattered. I went with a light yellow lace top from Walmart, my baggy American Eagle jeans, and leopard print accessories, including some of the most comfortable sneakers I own.

Now, let me tell you something. Sometimes an outfit looks better in your head, and this was definitely one of those days.

I wasn't completely feeling this outfit once I put everything together. I was already running behind, though, and I didn't have time to stand in my closet trying on five more outfits. So, I committed to it and left the house.

And the funny thing is, I actually liked a lot about this outfit. It was comfortable, I wasn't restricted while walking around the mall or trying on clothes, and I still love the individual pieces. I just don't think I would style them together the same way again.

So let me show you what I wore, how everything fit, and the one thing I think would've made this casual lunch outfit work so much better.

For the top, I wore this light yellow camisole from Walmart's The Devil Wears Prada collection in a size medium. The color is actually one of the things that made me want to wear it. I thought the soft yellow would look really cute with light-wash denim, and I wanted to bring in leopard print with my accessories to give the outfit a little more personality.

The top has lace detailing around the neckline and adjustable straps, which I really like because you can adjust where it sits. It has a loose, flowy fit, and while that made it comfortable for walking around the mall and sitting down for lunch, it's also where I think I went wrong with this outfit.

I'm wearing a size medium, but looking back, I probably should have ordered a small. The medium gave me a more oversized, flowy fit, and that wasn't really what I needed with these jeans.

I was already wearing baggy jeans, so having a loose top with a loose bottom made the entire outfit feel a little too oversized on me. I wanted the top to fit closer to my body, almost like a bodysuit, so there would be some balance between the fitted top and the baggier jeans.

Another thing I would keep in mind with this top is that it doesn't have padding. I normally don't reach for tops I can't wear a regular bra with unless they already have some padding or built-in support. I was trying something a little different because, listen, it was a random Tuesday and I was going to Lenox Mall for lunch at the Cheesecake Factory. I was trying to be a little cute and sexy.

But once I had it on, I didn't feel like the top was as flattering on me as I wanted it to be.

This is one of those situations where I don't think there was anything wrong with the top itself. I think I bought the wrong size for the outfit I was trying to create.

If I could do it again, I would size down to a small and see if that gives me the closer-to-the-body fit I originally wanted. And if that still didn't give me the look I was going for, I would swap it for a fitted yellow tank or bodysuit and keep everything else.

Because I still like the idea of yellow + light-wash denim + leopard print. I just needed the proportions to work a little better.

For the bottom, I wore my light-wash American Eagle baggy jeans. These jeans already have the relaxed, oversized fit I like, and I've shared how I styled them before. I still love the jeans. Looking back at this outfit, though, I think I should've let the jeans be the oversized piece instead of pairing them with an equally loose top.

These jeans are meant to have that baggy, relaxed look, so the fit wasn't the problem. They were actually perfect for what I was doing that day.

I had lunch, walked around Lenox Mall, went into Pandora and American Eagle, and even tried on more clothes while I was shopping. I never felt restricted in the jeans. They were comfortable enough for all of that walking, sitting down for lunch, and going in and out of fitting rooms.

Baggy jeans with a loose, flowy camisole gave me more volume on the top and bottom than I wanted. And because I'm only 5'1", I think having that much oversized fabric at once made the outfit feel different from what I had pictured in my head.

I wouldn't change the jeans at all. I would change what I wore with them.

This is where that smaller camisole, a fitted tank, or even a bodysuit would have made such a difference. I think having something more fitted on top would have given the baggy jeans their moment while also giving me more shape.

And that's probably my biggest takeaway from this outfit: I like oversized pieces, but I don't always like oversized with oversized on me.

The jeans can stay. Next time, I'm changing the top.

For shoes, I wore my Steve Madden leopard print sneakers. I already knew I'd be walking around Lenox Mall for a few hours, so this wasn't the day to experiment with shoes that might start hurting my feet halfway through the day.

These are actually some of my most comfortable sneakers. I've talked more about my Steve Madden leopard print sneakers in my current sneaker rotation, and they have become one of those pairs I reach for when I know I'll be on my feet for a long time.

Comfort-wise, these were probably the best decision I made with the entire outfit.

I wore them through lunch at the Cheesecake Factory, walking around the mall, shopping at Pandora and American Eagle, and trying on clothes. My feet weren't the issue at all. I already knew these sneakers could handle a day like this, which is exactly why I chose them.

I also still like the leopard print with the yellow top and light-wash denim. The print gave an otherwise simple outfit something extra without me having to wear an uncomfortable shoe just because I wanted the outfit to look cute.

If I recreated this outfit, I would still wear the leopard print sneakers. I think they worked with the colors, they gave the outfit some personality, and most importantly, they were practical for what I was actually doing that day.

And since I was already wearing leopard print on my feet, I decided to carry that print through the rest of my accessories too.

The glasses aren't prescription glasses. I really just wore them as an accessory because I thought they would help tie everything together. With the leopard print on my shoes, bag and glasses, the accessories felt intentional instead of me randomly throwing different prints into the outfit.

I wanted to mix the light yellow top with leopard print from the beginning, and I still think that color combination works. The leopard print gave the outfit more personality, especially since the rest of the look was basically a simple top and jeans.

The bag was also practical for a day at the mall. I could carry what I needed while I was walking around and shopping without having to carry a tiny bag just because it looked cute.

I don't think the leopard print was the problem.

If I wore this outfit again, I would keep the leopard sneakers and bag. I might play around with whether I needed the leopard glasses too, but overall, I still like the idea of repeating the same print in a few places to make the outfit feel pulled together.

The biggest change would still be that top.

And after wearing the entire outfit for lunch and a few hours of shopping, I think that's what finally made me realize why I wasn't feeling the outfit when I left the house.

After wearing this outfit for a few hours, I realized I didn't necessarily dislike the outfit. I just don't think the proportions worked the way I wanted them to on me.

The jeans were baggy. The top was loose and flowy. Put the two together, and I felt like I had too much oversized going on at once. I kept thinking about how different the outfit might have looked if the top had fit closer to my body.

If I could redo it, I would either try the Walmart top in a size small or replace it with a fitted yellow tank or bodysuit. I would keep the American Eagle jeans, leopard print sneakers and leopard print bag exactly where they are.

Sometimes that's all an outfit needs. Not an entirely new look, just one different piece.

Even though I wasn't completely feeling the way the outfit looked, I have to give it credit for being comfortable.

I went to the Cheesecake Factory for lunch, walked around Lenox Mall, stopped in Pandora, shopped at American Eagle, and tried on clothes. At no point did I feel restricted or uncomfortable. The loose top and baggy jeans gave me plenty of room to move, and choosing sneakers that I already knew were comfortable made a huge difference.

So from a practical standpoint? This outfit did exactly what I needed it to do.

Style-wise? I would give it another try with a more fitted top.

And that's probably the best reminder from this outfit. Not everything I wear isworn it for a few hours going to become one of my favorite outfits, and that's okay. Sometimes I don't figure out what isn't working until I've already left the house and spent a few hours wearing it.

At least now I know exactly what I would change next time.

And honestly, for a random Tuesday spent having lunch at the Cheesecake Factory and doing a little shopping at Lenox Mall, I still had a good day. The outfit may not have been giving what I thought it would, but the day definitely was.
