Nairobi: Drama As Fearless Gen Z Records 2 Traffic Police Officers While Collecting Bribe

A young Kenyan man has stirred wide debate on social media after filming himself confronting two traffic police officers in Nairobi who allegedly demanded bribes from a matatu driver.

The video, which has been shared widely online, shows the man walking straight up to the officers after they flagged down the public service vehicle by the roadside.One officer stood beside the driver’s window while the other kept watch nearby.

Instead of recording from a distance, the man moved close and announced his presence without hesitation.

He said on camera that motorists would not be allowed to keep paying money on that road and that he would not let the officers continue.

He added that the country could only progress if corruption was fought openly.

The situation grew tense when he advised the driver not to hand over any cash.

One of the officers reacted angrily and asked whether the man had given the driver money to pass on to the police.

The officer then told him to leave and suggested he was mentally unwell and needed medication.

The young man stayed calm and explained that his stand was deeply personal.

He revealed that his uncle died in a road accident caused by a driver who had been allowed to proceed while carrying more passengers than the law allows.

According to him, the driver had allegedly bribed officers to avoid arrest.

That loss, he said, turned the fight against traffic corruption into his personal mission.Bribery on Kenyan roads has long been a source of public anger.

Matatu operators often complain of pressure to pay officers at roadblocks, while critics say the practice allows unroadworthy and overloaded vehicles to keep operating.

Road safety data has repeatedly shown that speeding, overloading and poor enforcement are leading causes of fatal crashes in the country.

Police leadership has previously vowed to punish officers who solicit bribes and has urged the public to report such cases.

Many social media users praised the young man for his courage, saying he had said what many motorists fear to say.

The video has renewed calls for stronger action against corruption on the roads.
