Mob attacks police car after tenant allegedly kills popular 85-year-old landlady at Suminakese

Fear and outrage have engulfed the Suminakese township in the Kwahu East District of the Eastern Region after an 85-year-old landlady was brutally murdered, allegedly by her tenant.

The deceased, identified as Maame Asatewaa—famously known in the community as “Disco” or “Ginie Ginie”—was killed after she had reportedly sought police intervention over threats from the suspect, whom residents describe as a known marijuana smoker.

According to community sources, the 32-year-old suspect, identified as Morrow, allegedly bludgeoned the octogenarian with a pistol until she lost consciousness and died. He then dragged her body into a secluded area to conceal the crime.

The shocking discovery of her body plunged the town into mourning and provoked immediate fury among local residents.

Tensions boiled over when angry youth confronted police officers who arrived at the scene to secure the area and transfer the suspect to safety. In the ensuing clash, the agitated crowd vandalised an official police pickup vehicle before security personnel managed to bring the situation under control.

The police have since taken the suspect into custody as full investigations continue to determine the exact motive behind the heinous act.

Although calm has officially returned to Suminakese, residents remain deeply shaken and are demanding swift justice for the slain elder.
